Computer Engineering is a high-quality program focused on education, professional development, and research to prepare outstanding Computer Engineering graduates and to provide service to the community. The program is interdisciplinary and encompasses a range of disciplines including engineering, science, and mathematics. The program educates students in the fundamental core of Computer engineering and its cutting-edge, high-impact areas.

Program Educational Objectives

Consistent with the stated mission of the Florida Polytechnic University, the mission of the Computer Engineering program is to prepare its graduates for a rapidly changing engineering field. The faculty of the Computer Engineering Program strives to educate and train students in a technically sound and challenging manner to produce highly sought after graduates. Graduates are expected to attain the following within a few years of graduation:

  1. Design solutions to challenging engineering problems through the application of mathematics, science, and computer engineering.

  2. Establish a successful professional career in the fields of Computer Engineering and pursue advanced degrees.
  3. Succeed professionally through ethical and socially responsible conduct, effective technical communication, and strong contribution to multidisciplinary teams.

  4. Adapt and grow throughout their careers through life-long learning and professional development.

Student Outcomes

Graduates of the Computer Engineering program will demonstrate the following:

  1. An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
  2. An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
  3. An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
  4. An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams
  5. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
  6. An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
  7. An ability to communicate effectively
  8. The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
  9. A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning
  10. A knowledge of contemporary issues
  11. An ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.

All majors are required to complete an approved internship/professional experience prior to graduation.
