University Environment & Resources



Buildings

The JD Alexander Florida Polytechnic University Campus is the main campus where all academic and student services are offered. The main campus is located in the southwest corner of the intersection of Interstate 4 and the Polk Parkway in Lakeland, Florida. It sits on a total of 174.1 acres with two additional undeveloped parcels of 180 acres each, for a total of 534.1 acres. There are six constructed buildings on the main campus including two student residence halls, which house over 700 students. In addition, Florida Polytechnic University has off-site locations to properly accommodate administrative and research/public service resources and staff, these are known as Poly South and the Florida Industrial Phosphate and Research Institute (FIPR).

Innovation, Science, and Technology

The IST building is the flagship of campus and houses 26 classrooms and 11 laboratories.

Applied Research Center

Florida Poly’s newest building houses numerous laboratories, senior design and other workshops, a prototyping and fabrication facility, and faculty offices. This 90,000 sf building will house the center of much of Florida Poly’s research and applied learning.

Student Development Center

The SDC is fully equipped training facility with cardio and strength training equipment and an 8 lane competition pool.

Wellness Center

The Wellness Center includes the primary campus dining facilities, as well as the Phoenix Nest, Health Clinic, and the Mail and Copy Center. Other services including the Student Business Services (Cashier) and Parking are also located in the Wellness Center.

Admissions Center

The Admissions Center houses both financial aid and admissions staff.

Campus Control Center

The Campus Control Center is home to the Florida Poly Police Department, Facilities, and other Administrative functions.

Residence Hall I

Residence Hall I has three and four bedroom suites designed with the modern student in mind.

Residence Hall II

The Residence Hall II is equipped with game rooms and common study areas on all five floors.

Library & Learning Resources

Florida Polytechnic University Library’s collection supports all degree programs. Resources include databases, reference materials, journals and ebooks. Students access these resources through the student portal.

Students and faculty can access the library and its holdings from any Internet-accessible computer or tablet. With their Florida Polytechnic University ID cards, students have borrowing privileges at all State University System and State College libraries.

Laboratories

The university offers multiple laboratories to enhance the curricular experience by giving students hands-on opportunities to explore, develop, test, and build. Some of the laboratory spaces the University offers include opportunities for game development and simulation through the digital media lab, a rapid development (RAD) makerspace lab, and a robotics lab. The University also offers laboratory environments for supercomputing, cyber-security, and health informatics.

The various laboratory environments are flexible and provide valuable hands-on opportunities that support all academic programs and many co-curricular activities.

Research Institutes

Florida Polytechnic University fosters applied research in critical areas that support the Florida economy of today and tomorrow.

Florida Industrial and Phosphate Research Institute

The Florida Industrial and Phosphate Research Institute (FIPR Institute) supports phosphate-related studies to improve the environment, protect public health and increase mining and processing efficiency. Environmental engineers and chemists also conduct in-house research, and the Institute supports some non-phosphate topics such as energy and the mining and processing of other minerals.

Advanced Mobility Institute (AMI)

AMI, or the Advanced Mobility Institute, is in development with the intention of becoming the premier center for applied research, development, and testing of autonomous vehicle related technology.
