Bachelor of Science, Applied Mathematics (Program Curriculum)

All students must complete: (1) the University-wide baccalaureate degree requirements including the general education requirements; (2) the state of Florida common prerequisites for applied math majors; (3) the applied math program foundation requirements; (4) the applied math program core requirements; (5) the applied math elective requirements.

See the Bachelor of Science, Applied Mathematics (Plan of Study)  for the prescribed eight semester course plan for completing the degree in four years.

**Course offering frequency subject to change**

Students are strongly encouraged to select required lower division electives that will enhance their general education coursework and that will support their intended baccalaureate degree program. Students should consult with an academic advisor in their major degree area.

  2.  one laboratory based science course designed for science majors

NOTE: that all universities require a ‘C’ grade or better for admission.

 

Program Curriculum

Total Applied Mathematics Credits: 120

General Education (36)


1. Students must complete at least one course in each category to satisfy state of Florida regulation.
2. Students must take 12 hours of Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences.
3. Courses not taught by Florida Poly but listed in the State of Florida “common core” menu of courses can be accepted as transfer credit.
4. Transfer students who have fulfilled the general education requirements at another institution are understood to have fulfilled the requirements at Florida Poly.

Program Foundations / Advanced Math & Science (16)


1. This area may consist of additional general education courses or other foundational courses in a related field.
2. General education courses must be used first to fulfill General Education requirements before being applied here.
3. Credits here, and in the above Math and Science GE Sections meet the 30 hour Basic Math/Science requirement for ABET.
4. Should count the following in this category: COP 2271 - Introduction to Computation and Programming (required for all programs) Credits: 3. Doing so ensures the 30 hour ABET requirement for “Basic Math/Science.”

Program Core (24)


24 credits represents a minimum, depending on how many credits are included in Program Foundations / Advanced Math & Science.

Interdisciplinary Sequence Electives (12)


Twelve credit interdisciplinary course sequence, generally at the 3000 - 4000 level, subject to department approval. 

General Electives (6)


Six credit hours of general course electives.
