IDC 3180 - Contemporary Issues and Case Studies in Data Science

Course Description: This course focuses on the technical challenges in data science as it relates to their impact in today’s society. Topics and case studies covered in the course introduce students to the different perspectives from which policymakers, the technical community, and other stakeholders approach these challenges. The course discusses issues related to transparency, privacy, ethics, explainability, communication, accountability, and others. This course develops students’ understanding of the role of data science in decision making and the impact of data science in the design of intelligent systems.
Prerequisites: COP 2073 Introduction to Data Science
