Buildings
Florida Polytechnic University utilizes over 15 buildings for academics, administration, auxiliary services, student housing, research, and public service. These facilities adequately support the University’s mission and the scope of its programs and services, providing physical resources to prepare learners in advanced fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to become innovative problem-solvers and high-tech professionals.
The JD Alexander Florida Polytechnic University Campus is the main campus where all academic and student services are offered. The main campus is located in the southwest corner of the intersection of Interstate 4 and the Polk Parkway in Lakeland, Florida. It sits on a total of 174.1 acres with two additional undeveloped parcels of 180 acres each, for a total of 534.1 acres. There are six constructed buildings on the main campus (Main Campus Map). In addition, Florida Polytechnic University has off-site locations to properly accommodate administrative and research/public service resources and staff, these are known as Poly South and the Florida Industrial Phosphate and Research Institute (FIPR).

Library Services offers specific guides (libguides) on critical topics and disciplinary areas as well as the ability for students to create their own personal library.
Laboratories
The university offers multiple laboratories to enhance the curricular experience by giving students hands-on opportunities to explore, develop, test, and build.
Supercomputing Lab
In this HIGH-PERFORMANCE LAB, students perform complex calculations, run simulations and create detailed data maps using a high-speed, high-capacity IBM processor that’s similar to the Watson supercomputer.
Entrepreneurship Lab
Research is transformed into real-world success in this collaborative workspace that blends technology and business to help students, faculty and industry partners bring new innovations to market.
Cyber Gaming & Digital Media Lab
Wearable computers, media production, game development and simulated environments are just some of the innovations to come out of this lab, which features a multisensory communications center that’s continually updated with new technologies.
Visualization and Technology Collaboration (VTC) Robotics Lab
This lab combines the digital realm of programming with the tactile world of mechanical engineering and gives students the opportunity to get hands on with the latest technology in robotics, drones, remote management and advanced 3D graphics.
Rapid Application Development (RAD) Makerspace Lab
This hybrid manufacturing systems environment holds 55 3D printers and digital object scanners, making it one of the largest MakerBot Innovation Centers in the world.
Cyber Security Lab
Students train in an isolated network environment comprised of servers, transport facilities and end-user workstations that replicate real-world cyber security threats and simulate hacker techniques.
Big Data and Health Informatics Lab
A space where students use applied science and emerging technologies to analyze large data sets and develop high-tech solutions for the healthcare and biomedical industries.
Research Institutes
Applied research is more than a buzzword at Florida Polytechnic University. From classroom demonstrations to our open laboratories, we believe solutions to today’s problems are just a big idea away.
Suntrax
Located off of I-4 in Auburndale, SunTrax is a large-scale, cutting-edge facility dedicated to the research, development and testing of emerging transportation technologies in safe and controlled environments. The 400-acre site will include a 2.25-mile long oval track, which will provide an opportunity for high-speed testing, along with a 200-acre infield that will allow for the testing of a multitude of different technologies. Many of the opportunities are related to tolling, ITS, and automated and connected vehicles. Additionally, the entire site will be a connected environment for the testing of Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communications.
Florida Industrial and Phosphate Research Institute
The Florida Industrial and Phosphate Research Institute (FIPR Institute) supports phosphate-related studies to improve the environment, protect public health and increase mining and processing efficiency. Staff biologists, engineers and chemists also conduct in-house research, and the Institute supports some non-phosphate topics such as energy and the mining and processing of other minerals.
