Special Agreements

Florida Polytechnic University works with State and Community Colleges to develop special agreements for students from those institutions for some or all of our programs. Presently, the University has an agreement with Polk State College for all of Florida Poly’s programs, and an agreement with South Florida State College for Electrical Engineering. Students at these institutions must work with their college advisors to learn more about these opportunities and ensure they are on the right path to maximize their transfer experience.

SPECIAL NOTE: The following agreements with SFSC and Polk State are currently under review to expand opportunities for students. Future changes will err on the side of being more inclusive. Students planning to enter fall 2022 under one of these agreements as published will be able to do so.

Polk State College

Specific standards for admissions must be met to ensure full access to the agreement; however, if other admissions standards are met, the following general equivalencies will pertain.

Two-plus-Two Program-Business Analytics

This addendum applies to Bachelor of Science, Business Analytics (Plan of Study). Students completing the core transfer and articulated courses below will be accepted into Florida Poly (providing all other requirements are met) with 60 credits left to complete their degree.

Engineering (ABET) and Related Programs

The guiding document for this agreement is section II-D of the Florida Common Prerequisites Manual for 2018 - 2019 (CPM.II-D), which specifies the tenets governing the transfer of students from state colleges to universities for undergraduate engineering programs.

(See complete manual: https://dlss.flvc.org/c/document_library/get_file?uuid=4f8695e3-1adc-4631-9e89-9c26fc145b54

Or specifically section II-D.: https://dlss.flvc.org/documents/210036/666312/2016-2017+Common+Prerequisites+Manual+Engineering+Programs.pdf/cc7e2dee-0cd3-4e5e-b16a-8f00ef89d938.)

For purposes of this agreement, “engineering programs” applies to all programs delivered at Florida Poly with the term “engineering” in the degree name and programs for which the university is seeking or currently holds accreditation through one of the accrediting commissions of ABET.org. These programs are bound by the terms of their accreditation to ensure that all courses accepted into the program meet expectations of the accrediting agency and are articulated according to program and university policy. This includes ensuring appropriate prerequisites are met, faculty credentials are appropriate to the courses taught, and course content is sufficiently similar in topics and rigor.

Students completing the 48 hours of common prerequisites will be admitted to Florida Poly engineering programs provided they meet minimum grade requirements.

Limitations

Per tenet #4 of the Common Prerequisites Manual: If a student had to take additional mathematics courses prior to becoming eligible for the initial calculus course listed in the 48 hours, those courses will count toward the A.A. degree, but will be over and above the prescribed number of hours for the bachelor’s in engineering. Similarly, if a student takes foreign language courses at the community college to meet the SUS admissions requirement, those hours will count toward the A.A. but will be outside of the hours for the bachelor’s in engineering. If a student takes the foreign language courses (required for admission) at the university instead of the community college, excess hour surcharges may apply. In addition, credits earned above the 60 hours required for the A.A. degree may not apply toward the bachelor’s degree.

Core Transfer Credits Accepted by Florida Poly

Other State Colleges

Florida Poly has reviewed degree pathways for A.A.-earning students and other students at these three institutions. The following is the University’s best approximation of transferable credits based on each institution’s published pathways. Students will want to confer with our Admissions team, working with the Academic Success Center and Registrar’s Office to determine transferable credit.

Students who do not complete the A.A. but transfer to Florida Poly may be awarded the A.A. retroactively via reverse transfer mechanisms, subject to Board of Governor’s Rules, and student consent.

Hillsborough Community College

Transferable credits that apply to a Florida Poly degree are shown in the table below.
