Students entering Florida Polytechnic University for the first time take nearly the same courses as freshman, regardless of program. Within the common freshman year, eight (8) credits make up the Foundations Sequence of courses. These courses are intended to ensure that all Florida Poly students have a common foundation of educational experiences.
The Foundations Sequence is guided by the philosophy that when a student enters college he or she is formally beginning a journey of life-long learning. This journey requires that the student become intentional about his or her learning, deliberate in establishing learning and life goals, and cognizant of the resources available and the commitment necessary to be successful academically, personally, and professionally.
Goals of the Foundations Sequence
- Introduce core knowledge, skills, and abilities that are technical, practical, and professional in nature.
- Establish appropriate Florida Poly dispositions: code of ethics/work ethic; habits of mind appropriate to STEM exploration.
- Foster campus enculturation: learn your campus resources and discover opportunities to engage.
