Bachelor of Science, Applied Mathematics (Program Description)

The Applied Mathematics Bachelor of Science degree at Florida Polytechnic University provides a rigorous and broad education in mathematics with opportunities to explore how mathematics is used in related disciplines such as engineering, physics, data science, and computer science.  The program requires a customizable four-course sequence in related areas where mathematics plays a significant role. Students in the program acquire an in-depth understanding of the mathematical concepts, principles, and theory that underpin all STEM fields. Applied mathematics students use a broad range of techniques, including modeling, computation, and data analysis, in solving complex problems and providing innovative solutions. Students with strong mathematical training are in high demand in the workforce.

All students must complete: (1) the University-wide baccalaureate degree requirements including the general education requirements; (2) the state of Florida common prerequisites for applied math majors; (3) the applied math program foundation requirements; (4) the applied math program core requirements; (5) the applied math elective requirements. Students are strongly encouraged to select required lower division electives that will enhance their general education coursework and that will support their intended baccalaureate degree program. Students should consult with an academic advisor in their major degree area.

For program purpose, objectives, and learning outcomes see the Department of Applied Mathematics  .

For an example degree plan see the Bachelor of Science, Applied Mathematics (Plan of Study) .
