Bachelor of Science, Industrial Engineering (Program Description)

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Degree Programs of Study

The industrial engineering plan of study creates the framework to develop a student’s knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for entry into the practice of industrial  engineering at the professional level. Foundation courses in the STEM core include advanced mathematics and basics sciences (chemistry and physics) and complemented with general education courses. Industrial Engineering core courses include solid mechanics, materials, operations research, mathematical modeling and methods, manufacturing processes, production planning and control, design of experiments, engineering economics and project management.

Project based learning activities are threaded though the curriculum from ‘start to finish’ in the design sequence, which includes a common first year hackathon experience, then discipline specific lab and project experiences in the 2nd and 3rd year, and culminating in the final year with a multidisciplinary industry sponsored capstone design experience.  Students have elective choices including advanced courses in complementary engineering disciples of  mechanical, electrical and computer and environmental engineering.  Internships are required and specialized certifications, as available,  are encouraged.

For program purpose, objectives, and learning outcomes see the Department of Mechanical Engineering

For an example degree plan see the Bachelor of Science, Industrial Engineering (Plan of Study)
